Profile 2010-2011

Gaston Christian School, founded in 1980, is a nondenominational, college-preparatory school serving more than 800 students in grades PK-3 through 12.

GCS Mission Statement

The mission of Gaston Christian School is to help students mature spiritually and excel academically by offering a Biblically integrated, college-preparatory program that will enable them to impact the kingdom of God by living productive Christian lives.

Note: One elective credit must be in Art, Band, Concert Choir, Honors Ensemble or Drama. Additional math, science, social studies, or foreign language courses (beyond departmental requirements) are useful to most students and are counted as electives. Beginning with the Class of 2013, a computer applications credit will also required.

*To facilitate more leadership opportunities, students at GCS can only serve as an officer in one club each school year. The only exception is a student who holds a club office may also be an SGA class representative.

GPA Distribution

Grade Point Average (GPA) is based on the traditional grading system, with the exception that honors courses receive one extra quality point and Advanced Placement courses receive two extra quality points.

Explanation of Weighted Courses

All honors and Advanced Placement courses are considered “weighted.” These courses are offered contingent upon sufficient enrollment.
