On the faculty of Columbia International University, Helen Boen also serves as an administrator at Ben Lippen School, a K-12 Christian school located on the campus of Columbia International University.  Founder and owner of WESTAR Educational Services, Mrs. Boen has been providing information, instruction, guidance, and encouragement to Christian educators and parents across the United States since the 1970’s.  Mrs. Boen will be speaking on the following topic:

“The Role of Parents in the Education of Their Children”

HS Quiz Bowl Team

High School Happenings

February 11, 2011

Benjamin King, a junior at GCHS, won third place in the High School Technology andEngineering division of the Gaston Regional Science and Engineering Fair. The title ofhis project was “Potential Uses of Tidal Energy.” In addition to qualifying for regionalcompetition, Benjamin was also selected by the judges to receive the 2011 Naval ScienceAward, sponsored by the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research. The judging and awardsevent for the science fair was held at the Schiele Museum on Saturday, January 22.Congratulations, Benjamin!

Gaston Christian “Legal Eagles” Participate in Regional Competitions

Gaston Christian High School sponsored two teams at the North Carolina Advocates for Justice High School Mock Trial Regional Competition on February 5. Both teams competed very strongly in the two rounds of the competition with the following students winning awards: Best Attorney—Jordan Brown, Montgomery Fletcher, Natalie Howarth, and Megan Pearson; Best Witness—Montgomery Fletcher and Ben Kleinau.
The students began preparing in October for the event in February; Mrs. Jane Painter, Mr. Lee Peindl, Ms. Shantel Boone (all attorneys with the law firm of Mullen, Holland, and Cooper), Mrs. Vickie Wiggins (a paralegal with the law firm of Mullen, Holland, and Cooper), and Judge Michael Lands assisted as legal advisors for the two teams. Mr. Charlie Lanier served as GCHS faculty advisor.

Middle School Authors

February 3, 2011

Gaston Christian School students, Bailey Birtchet, Brianna Brewer, Jillien Zukaitis, and Megan McCulloh share their original books with their classmates.  Sixth grade students in Mrs. Barker’s English Literature classes wrote, edited and published their own hardback poem and story books.










Breanna Barrett and Taylor Morton proudly display the books they created in Mrs. Barker’s English literature classes at Gaston Christian School.

Middle School Happenings

February 3, 2011

Eighth grade students at Gaston Christian School look on as fellow student, Matthew Warren, tests out his seismograph for science teacher, Jonathan Huitt. Students worked in teams to create seismographs as part of their Earth Science classes.







Gaston Christian School students Luke Springs, Isabella Rockwell, Taylor Williams, Emily Egeln, Regan McNiff, and Kyndall High display their colony flags in their 6th grade history class.  Students of Mrs. Julie Denham created their own colonies including government, pamphlets advertising their colonies, and flags.
